Background Information

Misleading Advertising – Bamboo Textiles (www.bamboo-textiles.co.uk) is in breach of the UK Advertising Standards Code for not being able to substantiate their clothing is: made from bamboo; “100% eco friendly”; or “naturally anti-bacterial”.

The ASA has published two adjudications against Bamboo Textiles, the first on 15 December 2010 and the second on 14 December 2011.  The ASA considered that, because www.bamboo-textiles.co.uk had not provided robust evidence to support that their clothing was made from bamboo, was 100% eco friendly or naturally ant-bacterial, their marketing was misleading. The ASA told Bamboo Textiles not to repeat the claims unless they held adequate substantiation.

Although the ASA has adjudicated against Bamboo Textiles and has made several subsequent requests for an assurance of future compliance, they have not changed their website.  Because of Bamboo Textile’s continued non-compliance we took the decision to place their details on this section of the ASA website on 05 March 2012. These details shall remain in place until such time as Bamboo Textiles has appropriately amended its website to ensure compliance with the ASA adjudication and the CAP Code.
